I tried taking the allen bolts outs and taking the shifter apart to do the under over like you are talking about, but it wouldn't come apart unfortunately. I didn't want to be too rough with it. I don't have open end ratchet wrenches. They would be convenient. The loop ratchet wrenches that I have wouldn't fit over the bolt because of the larger hardware, etc. I drove it more today and it's growing on me.:the shifter level comes apart and you pass the lower section through the opening in the shifter plate.
